Day 1: Your Favorite Kdrama

Hands down Que Sera Sera (what will be, will be) is my favorite Kdrama of all time. It came out in 2007 a year where the majority of my favorite dramas hail from. I think writers, directors, and producers were willing to take risks regardless of success or not. 2007 was a year where mania dramas were sprouting left and right, impressing viewers more than the big productions that were equally as good as the smaller indie fares.

Que Sera Sera starts my forever boyfriend Eric Mun from long running and successful idol group Shinhwa (no longer idols in my opinion), the always refreshing and talented Jung Yumi, Lee Kyu Han, and Yoon Ji Hye. Right off the bat Que Sera Sera is slick, it’s cold, and unforgiving. It isn’t a drama peppered with sweetness and romanticism, it handles the idea of love realistically with a stylish flare and makes no excuses for the characters actions. QSS brings into question whether love is an all in relationship or if it truly is a sum zero game worth playing.

What enamored me to this drama were it’s realistic elements, well written characters, and the intensity projected by every aspect of the drama. The best part is that the light hearted moments we are offered aren’t forced experiences, in fact they come so naturally and are conveyed so subtlety that you’ll smile along with the characters as they themselves experience these quietly sweet moments.

TLDR; I’m a sucker for intense love stories that question the morality of the notion and QSS offers that and then some.

“Love is simple…
It’s over when one partner says it’s over.
Demanding love from someone who doesn’t love you is not love; it’s confinement.
Love is neither a negotiation nor a betrayal.
Trying to manipulate someone is not love.”
